About My Project & Me

My Project

My current research deals with entrepreneurial dynamics and local/regional development. The study is part of a project that aims to economic develop the municipality of Frederikshavn (North Denmark) from diverse fronts. I use economic geography tools. An important issue in the research is to look at the “experience economy”, the term originated from business literature and is now currently used by urban planners. I look at the entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs, and the networks they are involved in. The project seeks to be useful for current policy making, which could potentially advise a city like Frederikshavn.

Me

I’m a phd student, working as a research fellow at Aalborg University, Denmark. My PhD started on April 2008 and it’s supposed to finish in the Spring of 2011. I’m in the geography group and people consider me an economic geographer.

I’m originally from Madrid, Spain. My background is in business studies with a focus in innovation, local development and public policy. I studied my undergrad and masters in Spain, USA and Denmark.

I have the experience of having started several small (but profitable!) busineses in Spain and Denmark. I have also worked as a business consultant in several positions in Spain, USA and Latin America.

I live in Aalborg (Denmark) with my wife Sarah, and our newborn Anna Maria.

My full name in my home country is Lucio Carlos Freire García-Zarco. Sometimes people have referenced me as Freire, other times as García-Zarco. It’s a little confusing because of my Spanish roots. After my daughter was born in Summer 2009, we have decided to have the same last name all the family, so now I’m officially Lucio Carlos Freire-Gibb.
